Yesterday, four years ago, I made a promise. To make the world a little better. For real. And without excuses. When your child is placed in your arms, you don’t just receive love. You receive responsibility. Fear. Hope. And you make promises you may never say out loud. Promises about the person you will become. About the example you will set. About the world you will leave behind. I accepted those promises. And the challenge. The only problem was knowing where to start. How do you change the world? It sounds too big. Almost ridiculous. So, I stopped trying to change everything. And started changing one thing at a time. One home. Then another. A hotel. A project. A team. A person who needed guidance, confidence or a better opportunity. An agency that needed to deliver better infrastructure, faster and cheaper… Small steps. Baby steps, perhaps. But taken relentlessly. Four years later, I barely recognise the path I am on. And I hope the same is true for you. I really do. You don’t need to change the whole world today. Find one thing that matters to you. Become great at it. Use it to help people. And make sure the world knows you are there. That may be enough to change more lives than you imagine. Use this information at your own risk.
