Incompetence costs you money

More than you think. And it’s everywhere. Some people call it laziness. Even ignorance. Or worse… unawareness… Or insufficient understanding. The fact is that my team called the guys. The water guys. Aqualia in Spain. Once. Twice. Finally, they came. They installed the new device to measure water consumption. We wanted to change the contract, using the new device that comes with lower fees (it was a development site). No answer. Call. No answer. Call. They answered. The device is not correct. This is the price for the change. Just 6 months, and they have not come. The money was not much… I gave the green light for the new device… why bothering to signal their own mistake. So no change of contract, paying higher fees, and some customers annoyed because of the situation. 6 months. And if you think that the money is not a lot. Think of the energy that incompetence drains from you. And it is everywhere. I could tell you about my methods to deal with it. It includes meditation… but you probably imagined that. Complexity is the enemy of clarity. And without clarity, you're invisible. I’ve been in meetings where technical guys discuss and discuss. Argue and argue. About the gender of the angels. For hours. For meetings. For months. Ego against ego. And you still miss the point. The clarity, the specificity of the problem. And they go invisible. For bosses and leaders alike.
